My domain still says "We're setting up your website" after 24 hours — what to check

If your records look right but your custom domain still won't load after a full day, run through these five checks.

If it's been more than 24 hours and your custom domain still shows "We're setting up your website," the cause is almost always one of five things. Work down this list in order — most people are fixed by step 2 or 3.

1. Confirm you have BOTH records — exactly these

The single most common cause is a missing or mistyped record. At your domain provider you need both of these, and nothing else pointing the domain elsewhere:

Type

Host / Name

Value

A

@

138.197.154.187

CNAME

www

@ (your root domain)

Common mistakes: only the A record set (so www fails) or only www set (so the bare domain fails); a typo in the IP; or an old A record still there alongside the new one. Delete any extra A records so only 138.197.154.187 remains.

2. Turn off forwarding / redirects

If your domain is set to forward or redirect to another address, that forwarding overrides your A record and your site will never load — no matter how correct the records are. This is the #1 hidden cause. Find the Forwarding setting (GoDaddy), the URL Redirect Record (Namecheap), or the equivalent at your provider and turn it off completely.

3. Check whether the change has actually propagated

Sometimes the records are right but haven't spread across the internet yet. Check it yourself in seconds:

  • Go to whatsmydns.net, type your domain, and choose A from the dropdown.

  • If most locations show 138.197.154.187, your records are live — the hold-up is Roomvu re-checking (see step 5).

  • If locations still show an old IP or nothing, the record isn't saved correctly at your provider — go back to step 1.

4. The Roomvu URL works but the custom domain is blank?

If your roomvu.com link shows your site correctly but your custom domain is blank or stuck, that's the tell-tale sign your site is fine and the problem is purely DNS — a record at your provider, not your Roomvu content. Re-check steps 1–3; the fix is always at the registrar.

5. Re-save your domain in Roomvu

After your records are confirmed live on whatsmydns.net, go back to Settings → Website, make sure your domain is entered, and click Save Changes again. That re-triggers Roomvu's connection check. The SSL padlock can take a few more hours to appear after that — that part is normal.
