My AI Voice Clone Is Mispronouncing a Word. What Can I Do?

Learn what to do if your roomvu AI voice clone mispronounces a word. Submit a custom pronunciation request by emailing info@roomvu.com with the word and its correct pronunciation written in plain English.

Updated yesterday

AI voice cloning technology is remarkably accurate, but there are cases where certain words, especially place names, uncommon spellings, or abbreviated terms, can be mispronounced. This is a known limitation of text-to-speech engines, which rely on patterns to determine how words should sound and can occasionally get it wrong.

If your AI voice clone is mispronouncing a word in your videos, we can fix it for you by submitting a custom pronunciation request to our team.

Common examples of words that may need a custom pronunciation

  • City or place names: Names like "Port St. Lucie" can be tricky. Our system may read "St" as "street" instead of "saint." Regional place names with unique local pronunciations are especially prone to this.

  • Abbreviated words: Abbreviations like "St", "Dr", "Ave", or "Blvd" may be read literally rather than as their full intended words.

  • Uncommon first or last names: Names that do not follow standard English pronunciation rules may be read incorrectly.

  • Brokerage or company names: Unique business names or brand names that do not follow standard pronunciation patterns.

  • Local neighbourhood or area names: Names with French, Spanish, Indigenous, or other non-English origins that have locally accepted pronunciations.

How to submit a custom pronunciation request

Since our AI voice engine does not use a standardized form or phonetic notation system, the easiest way to tell us the correct pronunciation is simply using plain English letters to describe how the word should sound.

Send an email to info@roomvu.com with the following information:

  1. The word that is being mispronounced as it appears in your content.

  2. The correct pronunciation written out using plain English letters so we understand exactly how it should sound. For example: "St should be pronounced saint, not street" or "Thibodaux should be pronounced tib-uh-doe."

Our team will submit the correction to the pronunciation engine and follow up with you once it has been applied.

Note: Because pronunciation corrections are handled manually and applied to the AI engine, there may be a short processing time before the fix takes effect in your videos. In some cases, closely related words or names may also need to be adjusted separately, as a correction to one variation does not always carry over to another.
