Why Is My Uploaded Image Getting Cut Off in the Slideshow?

Explains why custom uploaded images may appear cropped in Roomvu slideshows. Image cropping occurs when the uploaded photo dimensions do not match the slide frame size. Includes tips on how to prepare images correctly before uploading.

Updated this week

If you notice that an image looks fine while editing a slide but appears cropped or cut off in the preview or final post, this is expected behavior and comes down to the difference between your image dimensions and the frame size used in that particular slide.

Why does this happen?

Each slide in a Roomvu slideshow uses a specific frame shape and size. When you upload a custom image, the system fits it into that frame. If your image dimensions do not match the frame, parts of the image will be cropped to fill it.

For example, if the slide frame is vertical but your photo is square or horizontal, the top and bottom of the image may be cut off to fill the vertical frame correctly. The same applies in reverse.

Why does it look fine while editing but cropped in the preview?

The editing view gives you a general look at how your content is coming together, but the final preview and published post reflect the actual frame dimensions. This is why the crop may not be obvious until you hit preview.

What can I do to avoid this?

The best way to avoid unwanted cropping is to match your image to the frame before uploading. Here is what we recommend:

  1. Before uploading, take note of the frame shape in the slide you are editing. Is it vertical, square, or horizontal?

  2. Resize or crop your image to match that shape before uploading it.

  3. When uploading, use the built-in crop tool to adjust your image for the frame. However remember that this is only used to crop it considering the frame.

  4. Always check the preview before publishing to confirm the image looks the way you want.

Key things to keep in mind

  • The frame in the slide is the size that matters most. Always treat it as your reference point when preparing images.

  • Images from the Roomvu library are already optimized for the slide frames, so if cropping is a concern, choosing from our library is a reliable alternative.

  • Different slides within the same slideshow may use different frame sizes, so check each slide individually.
