How to Manage Your LinkedIn Profile Photo Visibility

Your LinkedIn profile photo plays a crucial role in helping your connections and other professionals recognize you. While adding a profile photo is optional, it significantly boosts your visibility—profiles with a photo receive up to 2X more views and 3X more connection requests.

You can control who can see your profile photo by adjusting your visibility settings. Follow the steps below to manage your profile photo visibility both within LinkedIn and on your public profile.

To modify the visibility of your profile photo for LinkedIn members:

1️⃣ Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.

2️⃣ Click View Profile.

3️⃣ Click on your profile photo to open the settings.

4️⃣ Click the Visibility icon (on the left side of the pop-up window).

5️⃣ Select who can see your profile photo from the following options:

• 1st-degree connections only (People you’re directly connected with)

• Your network (Connections + their connections)

• All LinkedIn members (Anyone with a LinkedIn account)

• Anyone (Completely public, even outside LinkedIn)

6️⃣ Click Save to apply changes.

Your public profile determines how your profile appears to people outside of LinkedIn, including search engines. If you want to adjust how your profile photo appears in Google or Bing searches:

1️⃣ Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.

2️⃣ Click View Profile.

3️⃣ Click Edit public profile & URL on the right-side panel.

4️⃣ Under Edit Visibility, scroll down to the Profile Photo section.

5️⃣ Select one of the following options:

• Only 1st-degree connections (Only direct connections can see it)

• Your network (Connections + their connections)

• All LinkedIn members (Anyone on LinkedIn can see it)

• Public (Anyone on the internet can see it)

🔹 Changes are saved automatically.

🚨 Important: These settings can only be updated on the LinkedIn desktop site and cannot be changed from the mobile app.

✅ The default setting for profile photos is Anyone (Public).

✅ If you adjust your profile photo visibility from your profile page, it also updates your public profile settings automatically.

✅ You can set different visibility levels for your LinkedIn profile and your public profile (e.g., making your photo visible to all LinkedIn members but not to search engines).

✅ If your public profile is disabled, you cannot set your profile photo visibility as Public.
