Most professionals underestimate LinkedIn. Don't. It's where people with real money and real intent spend their time — they're not there to waste an afternoon, they're there to grow. A single post can put you in front of more decision-makers than a week of other platforms combined.
Here's the mindset shift: on LinkedIn, stop counting likes and start counting impressions. A post with 54 likes can quietly reach 1,800 people. That's 1,800 professionals you're now top of mind with. If your profile is optimized to convert that reach, LinkedIn becomes one of your best sources of business.
Follow these steps to make your profile findable and credible.
1. Turn on your visibility
If people can't see you, none of the rest matters. Go to Settings & Privacy and check the following:
Profile visibility — make sure your profile is visible to everyone.
Page and connection visibility — turn these on so people can actually find and connect with you.
Profile photo — make sure it's enabled and visible to all. A shocking number of profiles hide their photo, and it kills trust instantly.
2. Claim your custom public URL
By default, LinkedIn gives you a messy URL full of numbers. Fix it. From your profile, use the Edit public profile & URL option in the top right corner and set it to your name — first name plus last name, or initial plus last name. A clean URL is easier to share and helps people discover you.
3. Write a searchable headline
Your headline is prime real estate for search. Use the formula city + field, helping X do Y. Include your location and your specialty so LinkedIn (and Google) know exactly who you are and who you serve.
4. Fill out the whole profile
Contact info — complete it so people can reach you without hunting.
About section — tell your story clearly. This is a great place to reuse the same bio you use everywhere else.
Featured posts — pin your best content to your profile so the first thing visitors see is your strongest work.
Cover image — add a branded one. If you need a cover image, just ask our team and we'll create one for you.
The more complete and content-rich your profile, the more LinkedIn surfaces you in search.
5. Then grow your network
An optimized profile still needs an audience. Import your contacts and connect with the people you already know — sync your contacts and add past clients so your content actually reaches them. For the full walkthrough, see How to Expand Your LinkedIn Network.
Do this once and LinkedIn stops being the platform you ignore and starts being the one that brings you your best clients.
